Remarks at press conference prior to the Prince William Board of County Supervisors meeting of December 13, 2022

Tonight, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors will hold a public hearing and vote on the 2040 Comprehensive Plan and vision for the future of our county.  We know that public hearings are an annoying formality to this Board that has absolutely no interest in citizen input.  Shady deals cooked up long ago behind closed doors will be rubber stamped while disadvantaged county residents are left to spit into a wind of political indifference.

Our current Board has a disconcerting practice of taking developer aspirations and passing them off as the county’s vision.  Developers have been eagerly awaiting such a compliant Board, and their Christmas lists have been duly delivered to Santa Wheeler.  She and her four obedient elves have been in the workshop folding that tainted input into the travesty you’ll see peddled tonight.

It would be refreshing for our supervisors to actually come up with an original idea designed to benefit their constituents. 

The residents of Prince William County are tired of being uninformed, misinformed and otherwise hoodwinked by a county government wholly beholden to developer interests.  Our county is being vandalized before our eyes by acquiescence or outright collusion from those we entrusted to represent us. 

We have no expectation of dissuading this Board from its blind allegiance to their moneyed benefactors.  Instead, our focus will be identifying their misdeeds and ensuring supervisors are held accountable for their treachery. 

Other officials who have the ability to influence our supervisors toward a more responsible path, but fail to do so out of political fealty, must also share the wrath of the electorate.

Our government has betrayed the trust of its constituents through its aversion to transparency, public education and inclusion.  There has not been sufficient explanation of the “time bombs” buried in this plan and issues of such critical importance should be debated during 2023 election cycle.  The current process is deliberately designed for railroading. 

* Say NO to Supervisors who have violated the public trust by selling out your interests.

* Say NO to arrogant and unresponsive government.

* Say NO to surrendering your sovereignty to unsympathetic business interests.

* Say NO to developer gold mines and citizen land mines.
